Family mountain hotel Štumpovka and mountain chalet Dvoračky

Stary family

Why just Štumpovka and how it began?

Štumpovka was originally built as an outhouse bought by Mr. Štumpe in 1930. In 1933 his daughter Kristýna was born and in 1938 daughter Jana, who lived here until 1956. Their father worked here after the nationalisation as a flyman and secured supplying by horses. In the totalitarian regime the manor was operated as a tourist hostel with approximately 50 beds in 6 rooms. In June 1990, for unknown reasons, it burnt down and the management of the KRNAP levelled the site of fire to the ground. Only a brick substation remained from the manor.

In 1991 our uncle, Ing. Jiří Justicz, bought the neighbouring Dvoračky from Mr. Jindříšek and Mr. Truhlář who acquired the property from Giant Mountains Interhotels. In 1992, Mr. Justicz bought the burnt site after the former building from daughters of Mr. Štumpe.

Our family has been doing business at Dvoračky since 24th April 1993

First, we preserved by total reconstruction Dvoračky chalet which was completely devastated by the totalitarian regime, so that it at least partially mets hygiene regulations and standards. In 2000, we purchased Dvoračky chalet including land after the burnt building from our uncle.

After steadily increasing pressure of new sanitary regulations and standards it was not impossible to keep Dvoračky in operation 365 days a year, so we decided to restore the former farmhouse on the place of the burnt land. In May 2002 we started the construction of a new building, which was put to preliminary operation on 18th December 2008 and opened to the public on 26th December 2008.

We built the whole building ourselves, with self-help, depending on our financial possibilities, to its present form, which took 7 years.

We cut down trees and cut the wood on our own frame-saw, delivered material by own, now a historic transportation, tables, chairs, chandeliers and other wood furniture was made here in home carpentry. The whole building was designed and supervised by Ing. Jiří Dobeš from Jilemnice who designed the proposal according to former Labská chalet as seen from Labský Mine, which burned down on 6th November 1965 due to careless workers. Full completion of the construction (sauna, whirlpool, swimming trainer, fitness, children’s playground, sports ground, parking areas, etc.) is planned by 2011.

We honour and appreciate the difficult and demanding work of our predecessors (except for the totalitarian regime) in this mountain environment, who worked here in difficult conditions and depended only on their closest family, their diligence, skills, perseverance and ingenuity.

We named the new facility – hotel – after the former owner, Mr. Štumpe – Mountain hotel Štumpovka.

We hope that our grandchildren, now little Tonička with Bertik, will be our good successors.
